This upazila is the main agricultural area. Agriculture is the main source of income for the people here. Paddy, jute, wheat, potato, mustard, chilli, coffee, Chinese almond, sugarcane, maize and other pulses are the main crops of the farmers in the fertile areas of loam, clay and sandy soils. The area under cultivable land is 29247 ha, the area under non-cultivable land is 3114 ha and the fallow land is 6543 ha. The total number of families is 1 lakh 22 thousand 650. Of these, the number of agricultural families is 1 lakh 22 thousand 720. Large farmers 4,140, medium farmers 6,900, small / small farmers 56,300, marginal farmers 48,180, landless farmers 6,100. Heavy rains in Bamandanga, Sonaray, Ramjivan and Dhopadanga Unions every year submerge paddy planted in low lying areas. Besides, transplanted aman paddy planted in char areas in 6 unions was suddenly submerged in the flood. There are 161 reservoirs.
