Hat-Bazar

There are 42 small and big hats and bazaars in the upazila. Among them are traditional Mirganj, Shobhaganj and Panchpir Hat. At present Mirganj Hat located in the municipality is very old and traditional. As this market is situated on the ridge of the barn, traders and merchants used to come from far and wide with big boats to do business. Lots of goods were imported and exported. In the old days many Marwaris lived in this market but now they do not exist. The market is open 2 days a week on Saturday and Wednesday. During the jute season a lot of jute is imported at this market.
Besides, Shobhaganj Hat is established in the middle of the upazila. Here also at one time the Marwaris used to run a prosperous business. At one time traders used to come to this market from far and wide.
On the other hand, Panchpir Hat is located in the eastern part of the upazila. According to legend, at the beginning of the British rule, five saints came to the area to preach and set up camp. Around their dormitory, shops gradually developed and took shape in the hat-bazaar. This hat is named after 5 pirs.
